A few years ago I moved into my first small apartment with a nearly empty bank account and a head full of Pinterest boards. Every “budget decor” guide I found either assumed I owned my walls, or that “budget” meant $3,000. Neither was true for me. So I started experimenting: thrift stores, renter-friendly hacks, one small upgrade per paycheck. The apartment slowly became a home — and I wrote down everything that worked.
What you’ll find here
Frugal Flat is a practical guide to apartment decorating on a real-world budget. Every article is written around three rules:
- Renter-friendly first. Nothing that risks your security deposit — no drilling required unless clearly marked, and always with a damage-free alternative.
- Real budgets. When we say a makeover costs $200, we itemize it. No mystery “designer sources”.
- High impact only. We focus on the 20% of changes that create 80% of the effect: lighting, textiles, walls, and layout.
